"Okay let me start by saying huge Tillie Cole fan, love the first book in the “Hades Hangmen†series. I was gonna read the second book in the series, but read the first couple pages and immediately could not stand Delilah so I moved on to book three. I had high hopes for book three, I really wanted to like “Souls Unfractured†but it was just too much. Too much, too much abuse and rape that it just overshadowed the story and I didn’t enjoy it. I get that this is a dark romance and this book deals with sensitive issues but I feel like the author was trying hard with this one. Just way over the top with some scenes.
I didn’t get Flame and Maddie, I didn’t dislike them I just wasn’t feeling the connection. Really awful what they both went through and I feel from them, I just wasn’t feeling them together. I also think the author was a little over the top with Flame’s character, just no.
I just think that the author went so over the top with the dark stuff in this one that it outshined everything else and I just didn’t enjoy it. Overall didn’t hate this book but also didn’t love it. Taking a break, unsure if I will continue with the “Hades Hangmen†series."

- Okay let me start by saying huge Tillie Cole fan, love the first book in the “Hades Hangmen†series. I was gonna read the second book in the series, but read the first couple pages and immediately could not stand Delilah so I moved on to book three. I had high hopes for book three, I really wanted to like “Souls Unfractured†but it was just too much. Too much, too much abuse and rape that it just overshadowed the story and I didn’t enjoy it. Taking a break, unsure if I will continue with the “Hades Hangmen†series. - I absolutely loved the story of Flame and Maddie. Author Tillie Cole makes sure each of her characters are unique and well defined and never writes a 'copy and paste' story. This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story about two souls who are drawn together not just because of their broken lives but for the hope that love can heal what can still be healed. Souls Unfractured is full of touching moments that redeem the heart and twists and turns that blew me away. Highly recommend the entire series.
- I think all the Hades Hangmen books deserve 5 stars, but this one may just deserve 50 stars. The story is just amazing. Some people might think that the story may be the darkest yet, but personally, I think it's the most beautiful of all of them. Flame and Maddie really are the other half of each other's soul, and they complete each other in a way that no one else would be able to do.
Flame is a member of the Psycho Trio of the Hades Hangmen. He has never seen the world the way that other people do, and because of that, he suffered terribly as a child. Now, as an adult, he hates to be touched, he hates most people, and he has to cut himself in order to stay any kind of calm. He will happily go out and stab people 11 times. He may be and do all of those things, but there is also one other thing that he is and does. He is very protective of Maddie and stands guard outside of wherever she happens to be living.
Maddie is the youngest of the Cursed from the terrible cult. She suffered greatly during her time there, and even worse after her sister Mae left. When she and Lilah were rescued, Flame was there and he disposed of the man who had tortured her the most. She went and hugged him, which surprised everyone, since Flame can't be touched, but he also hugged her back. Even though Flame may scare everyone else, she feels safe when he's around.
Their journey is just an amazing one. Things that you and I may take for granted don't come easily to either Maddie or Flame, and it's an epic struggle for them to be able to do those things, so when they are able to do something as simple as hold hands, you can feel how much of a victory it is for them to get to that point. They had to work so hard for that.
Unlike some other books when the two broken people get together and somehow manage to completely heal the other, Maddie and Flame aren't strictly healed. They have just learned what it will take to manage their pain and their broken-ness, and that is the other person.
Really, of all the couples in the books, I think that Maddie and Flame are my favorite because they have so much more to overcome and because they work so hard to get there. - I’m beyond picky when it comes to who I take book recommendations from. The author Tillie Cole came up in conversation at a book convention with someone who I have few books read in common with. I purchased this entire series based upon her love for Souls Unfractured. At the end of It Ain’t Me, Babe the Hades Hangmen rescue Mae and her two Cursed sisters Lilah and Maddie. It is that scene where Maddie hugs Flame the twitchy, can’t be touched, psychoist of the Psycho Trio that made me ready to not only read how Cole would make this couple work, but I just had to know what had happened to Flame to make him the way he is.
“I know I’m different. I know I don’t see the world like everyone else does. But I want to see your world, Maddie. Even if it’s the only one I’ll ever understand.â€
Yeah. I just kind of loved Flame. His story is a sad one. He’s the poster person of how not to treat another living being. Tillie didn’t tell his story in a way that you pity him though. He’s been through hell and has the scars to prove it. He’s strong. He’s a little different. His coping mechanisms are not something that many will understand. His attraction to Maddie is straight up obsessive and really heartwarming. He knows deep down that he’ll never be able to touch her or give her the love and affection he feels that she deserves. He still vows to protect her as his.

Of the three Cursed women who have found themselves living within the walls of the Hades Hangmen compound Maddie is the quiet timid one that has fully embraced living in her shell and watching the world from the window. She also enjoys watching Flame watch her. He is the only one that has ever made her feel safe, comfortable. She knows that he would never hurt her or allow her to ever be hurt again. It is that level of trust and that bond that makes their love story so sweet. Even with all the violence, past hurts, and what Maddie and Flame have to overcome to start a relationship their story turned out to be so heart wrenchingly sweet.
